How Spur Of The Moment came to be.

We became interested in horses in the fall of 2005 when we started going to the Milones farm in Harrisville area with Myrissa Murray. Myrissa helped take care of their horses and she invited us to go with her one day and that led us into going almost everyday with her. Harry had horses when he was a child and has always loved them so he went surfing the internet for different horse sites and that's where we learned about Sawyer Creek. Harry e-mailed their site and asked if we could stop by sometime and Julie happened to be at her computer and e-mailed right back and said we could stop by anytime and that the coffee is always on. So I called right away and we went down within the next couple of days. John & Julie welcomed us with great hospitality and showed us their horses. We had a great visit and  was invited back. After leaving there we decided we would love to have horses ourselves and our brain cells went into overdrive . We soon became fixtures at John & Julie's and they taught us alot about the Appaloosa breed. Their knowledge, advice, and input has helped us tremendously. We are so thankful and value our friendship with John & Julie alot.

With Julie's input we purchased our first App. in April of 2006 and was able to have it at my Uncle's place where Myrissa had her two horses.  April Misty Morn  ( Gracie )was a 8 year old Blue Roan and kid friendly and all broke to ride. We were so thankful to have such great family members to allow us to start our new adventure before we got our own farm. We did alot of research and bought quite a few books to help us make the right choices. We sold Gracie to a woman who has had horses for several years and lost her riding mare to old age and Debbie has young children who wanted a riding mare. They love Gracie and we stay in touch with each other.

We purchased our 5 acre farm in July of 2006 on the Rudes Road in Philadelphia,New York and had already purchased our second horse from Sawyer Creek. We are the proud owners of "Dontcha Miss Me "( Missy).  We got settled in our new place and purchased our third horse again from Sawyer Creek. We again feel very blessed to own such a beautiful filly. Her name is " Kissed in the Dark " ( Fancy ) and she has brought so much enjoyment to our lives. Fancy is our show horse and she did a fantastic job of placing at the shows. Harry showed her and he did a fantastic job of presenting her at the shows. I am so proud of both of them.  Our trainer was Joseph Todd and he also showed Fancy . Joseph did a super job of getting Fancy fit for the shows and training her. Thanks so much Joseph for all you did.  Our neighbor offered us a great deal on about 2 1/2 acres of land between us to lease yearly so we have fenced that also. We purchased our fourth horse from our trainer. Yep, another appaloosa mare and "Moonwalker Denali " ( Moonie ) is an awesome mare and she is a asset to our farm. Now what would a farm be without a farm dog. We now own a beautiful Blue Heeler ( Sadie ). Sadie was 12-13 weeks old when we got her in Nov.2006 .  Needless to say she is spoiled rotten and loves to herd the horses and us. Sadie has really entertained us and she loves to go with us where ever we go. She loves to go play with the Krieder kids.( Molly, Annie, & Pepper.)

Now you have to have a barn  cat or two so we got Jewels . Unfortunatly Jewels died while we were at a horse show. We will have two new kittens from Janelle and Travis Yates. They will be all spaded and their first shots. No names picked out as of right now but will update real soon with their names.

We have named our two new kittens and they have settled in nicely.   The pure black one is Spooky and the black/white one is Spitfire. We also aquired another cat from our children which is older and his name is Angel.  Angel has long fuzzy gray/striped hair and is a really good mouser. Spitfire appears to be interested in the mice but Angel won't share. Spooky wants no part of it.

We also have the childrens huge dog named Shadow. Sadie and Shadow play quite well together and yes, they do get ugly with each other. Sadie doesn't back down either.  Shadow is part mastiv and lab. He is a big loveable dog. Shadow is 5 yrs. old. and weighs about 170 lbs. or more.

We put cams up in the barn in Moonie and Missys stalls.  We'll be able to keep a really good eye on them when they get ready to foal. We put a heater up in a stall also . We are looking forward to having our foals.

I want to mention that our son Bill, daughter Paula, and Grandson Billy have been a God sent to us because without their constant laboring for us we never would of got all that we have accomplished since purchasing our farm in July 2006. They also are the ones who look after our horses and house while we are out of town. Our son Jerry and family helped us move and helped build the deck on our house . We are truly blessed to have such terrific children who are always there for us.  We also have two other children. Our son Harry Jr. lives in Tupper Lake,N.Y. and has a drywaller business with a buddy of his. Our daughter Pamela lives in Texas and has given us 4 beautiful Grandchildren. Pamela works for Sams Club out there.

Update: Feb. 27, 08-- We are down to two barn cats now as Angel is at a new home with the Murrays in Fine,N.Y. Shadow our childrens huge dog is no longer with us either as they have taken him home with them. Sadie loves being the only dog again.
